Define
The first step in a new project is to define exactly what the business process currently looks like and what the process should look like. This includes who is responsible, to what standard the process should be completed, and how the success of the process can be determined.
FlowCentric Business Analysts schedule workshops with employees in the relevant department. The employees are asked to bring along hardcopies of any documentation used during the process, as well as any policies and regulations governing the process.
During the workshop, participants are asked to “talk” the business analyst through the process. The business analyst uses the FlowCentric Process Suite’s MS Visio plug-in to map the process during this discussion.
- Define each step/activity in the process
- Who performs each of these steps
- Business rules applying to each step
- Integration requirements, if any
- Standards - best practices
- Client-specific policies – the client’s way of doing business
- FlowCentric product design
At the end of the workshop, the business analyst takes all of the information obtained, and creates a Functional Specification Document. Once this document has been agreed on and signed by all parties, the Configuration and Integration phase of the project begins.
